Università degli Studi di Milano (UMIL) is a major higher education and research institution in Italy, offering degrees in all areas of science and humanities. The SEcure Service Architectures Research (SESAR) Lab, established in 2003, is located at the Department of Computer Science of the University, and is led by Prof. Ernesto Damiani. The SESAR lab has a staff of 15 full–time researchers and postdocs, plus a number of PhD candidates with experience in several fields, including cloud testing and performance monitoring, security certification of software/services, mobile geolocation and privacy, formal verification of distributed systems, empirical software engineering. Long-term grants from major companies, such as Telecom Italia, Nokia Siemens Networks, British Telecom, fund several SESAR Lab’s current research.
In addition, Prof. Damiani, as SESAR Lab director, is the chair of “WS Requirements and recommendations for assurance in the Cloud (RACS)” Workshop of the European Committee for Standardization. UMIL has a long experience in leading or participating in research and innovation actions in the framework of the H2020 program. The SESAR Lab also has a solid background in the field of empirical software engineering and in system and network security. On all the above topics SESAR lab researchers have published hundreds of scientific papers in top conferences and journals, filed international patents, and participated to standardization initiatives of W3C, OASIS and IETF.
